While the ice situation is uncertain due to the coronavirus, news about summer sessions is starting to trickle in. Here’s what I have for summer 2020 so far. If you know of any offerings that aren’t on this list, get in touch.
- Pickwick Ice, Burbank, CA, weekdays beginning June 15: A figures class is offered as part of the summer skating camp.
- Sun Valley Summer Skating School, Sun Valley, ID, June 15–August 21: Daily patch sessions are offered on the outdoor rink. There will be a patch class on Monday mornings, 7:40–8:05.
2019 Information
This section is out of date, but many rinks do the same thing every summer, so it’s worth checking to see what offerings will be repeated.
When school’s out, many rinks offer special programming. Sometimes this includes figures! Here’s a list of rinks that are offering patch sessions and/or figure classes in summer 2019. More will be added as they come in. If you know of any offerings that aren’t on this list, get in touch.
- New England Skating Club, Norfolk, MA, May 11–June 29: Debbie Moffitt and Sam Magaw are offering a Figures and Edgework Clinic.
- High Sierra Adult Skate Camp, South Lake Tahoe Ice Arena, Lake Tahoe, CA, May 22–26: Figures clinics are offered.
- Mentor Figure Skating Club, Mentor, OH, June 3–August 9: There is a figures clinic on Fridays.
- Royal Skating Club, Guildford, UK, June 9–August 18: English-style figures (simple and combined) are being skated at the Guildford Spectrum Leisure Center early Sunday mornings.
- Winterhurst Figure Skating Club, Lakewood, OH, June 10–August 16: Roberta Mitchell offers a figures clinic for skaters who have passed pre-juvenile moves on Mondays.
- Robert Crown Center, Evanston, IL, June 10–August 11: Figures are included in the summer camp on Fridays, and patch sessions are offered weekday mornings.
- Sun Valley Skating School, Sun Valley, ID, June 17–August 16: Daily patch sessions are offered on the outdoor rink.
- Detroit Skating Club, Bloomfield Hills, MI, June 17–August 31: A daily “skills class” includes figures.
- Morgan Park Sports Center, Chicago, IL, June 19–August 14: There is a figures class on Wednesday afternoons. Sign up through the Chicago Park District website.
- Lake Placid Skating, Lake Placid, NY, June 20–23 & August 18–24: Patch sessions and figures classes are typically offered during Adult Week.
- Monument Ice Rinks, Colorado Springs, CO: Tyler Shipstad teaches a figures class on Wednesdays, 1:30–2 pm.
